FAQ

Common questions

Short answers about what the converter keeps and what stays private.

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. The converter runs inside your browser, so your image files are read and the JPG files are made on your own device. Nothing is sent to a server.

Is there a limit?

No daily limit and no file size limit set by us. You can drop many files at once and download them one by one or together as a ZIP. Very large pictures depend on how much memory your device has. If one is too big, it is saved smaller and the list says so.

Are the photo details kept?

Not unless you ask. Details such as the place, the date and the camera are left out, so you can share the new file without them. To keep them, pick Keep under Photo details in Extra settings (JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF or JPEG XL), or Keep and edit to change the author, copyright, date or place.

What happens to transparent parts?

JPG cannot be transparent, so transparent parts become white, or another colour you pick under Background in Extra settings. Pick PNG to keep them transparent.

Which files can it open?

JPG, PNG, HEIC and HEIF from iPhones, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, ICO and SVG, and also TIFF, PSD and PSB from Photoshop, camera RAW photos (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG, RAF, ORF, RW2, PEF and more), EPS, PostScript and Illustrator files, JPEG 2000, JPEG XL, TGA, PCX, DDS, EXR, HDR, QOI and the PNM family. The rare ones load a reader the first time you add one.

Can it open camera RAW photos?

Yes, in your browser, with no upload of a 25 MB file. Full quality develops the RAW file itself, which takes up to half a minute a photo. Quick takes the JPG the camera stored inside the file, usually full size, in about a second.

Can I make one animated GIF from several pictures?

Yes. Pick GIF, set Make to One animated GIF from all, then choose how long each picture shows and how often it repeats. Download makes the GIF in the order of the list.

Can I convert a picture from a link?

Paste the link in the box under the upload area. Most photo sites and CDNs allow it. When a site does not let other pages fetch its pictures, right-click the picture there, choose Copy image and press Ctrl+V on this page.

Can I put my images into one PDF?

Yes, with Images to PDF: drop the pictures, drag them into order, and each one becomes a page of one PDF.

Can I make the pictures smaller?

Yes. Under Size, pick a longest side such as 1920 px, a width, a height or a percent, or for JPG and WEBP set Max file size: the converter finds the best quality that fits and only shrinks the picture when it has to. Pictures are never made larger.

What is "Created with FormatYard.com" in my files?

Like the photo apps that write their own name, FormatYard writes this short note in each file it makes: in the Software field of a JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, JPEG XL or TIFF, as a comment in a GIF or SVG, and as the maker of a PDF. It holds nothing about you. To take it out, along with every other photo detail, use the EXIF remover.
