Common questions
What the converter keeps, what it changes for older versions, and what stays private.
Is my drawing uploaded anywhere?
No. The converter runs inside your browser, so the drawing is read and written on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server.
Why does "2007" give me a 2004 file?
AutoCAD 2007 opens files in the 2004 format, and so do AutoCAD 2004 to 2009. Saving in that format is the most reliable way to reach all of them.
What changes in an older version?
Things the older format cannot hold are rewritten so the drawing still looks the same: a table becomes a block of its lines and text, and a multileader without its own drawing is broken into lines and text. The result lists every change it made.
Is anything lost?
Layers, blocks, layouts, dimensions, hatches and 3D solids are carried over, and so is the preview your file dialog shows. Annotative scales are kept wherever the converter can write them, and anything it has to make plain is listed.
What does R14 leave out?
R14 is from 1997, and its format has no lineweights, true colours, transparency or annotative scales. Lines take the default width, colours become the nearest of the 255 standard ones, annotative objects show at one scale, and objects R14 does not know, such as constraints and the history of 3D solids, are left out. The solids themselves are kept. Pick 2000 if the program that opens the file can read it.
