FAQ

Common questions

Short answers about what the DXF viewer shows and what stays private.

Is my drawing uploaded anywhere?

No. Everything runs inside your browser, so the DXF is read and the result is made on your own computer. Nothing is sent to a server.

Which DXF files work?

DXF files from AutoCAD R12 up to the 2018 format, in text (ASCII) or binary form. That includes the R12 DXF many CNC, laser and cutting programs save.

Can I measure the drawing?

Yes. Click Measure, then two points: the cursor snaps to ends, middles, centres and crossings, and you get the distance in the drawing's units with ΔX, ΔY and the angle. Area measures a shape you click round. On a layout, lengths are millimetres on the paper.

Do I need AutoCAD?

No. The viewer reads the DXF itself. The first file loads its two converters (about 6 MB together) once; after that, files open in a few seconds.

Can I see the drawing in 3D?

Not yet. The viewer shows each drawing from above, the way a plan is drawn. 3D solids are not drawn yet, and the result says so when a drawing has them.

What is not shown?

Construction lines, 3D solids, images and external references are left out for now. A table shows as the lines and text it is drawn with.

Can it open a DWG?

Not this page: the DWG viewer opens AutoCAD DWG files the same way.
