How to remove EXIF data from photos

Step 1

Pick what goes

Everything (the place, the camera, the dates, the author, the software), only the place, the kinds you choose, or change the details instead.

Step 2

Add your photos

Drop as many as you like. Each row shows what the photo held, with the place and AI prompts in red, and what was taken out.

Step 3

Download them

Download each one, or all of them as a ZIP. JPG, PNG and WEBP keep every pixel as it was.

FAQ

Common questions

Short answers about what the converter keeps and what stays private.

Are my photos uploaded anywhere?

No. The photos are read and written inside your browser, on your own device. That matters most here: the details you are taking out, such as where you live, never leave it.

What is EXIF data?

Details a camera or phone writes into each photo: the place (GPS), the date and time, the camera and lens, the settings, and the app that saved it. Other details sit beside EXIF, such as XMP and IPTC (author, copyright, keywords). This page takes out all of them.

Does removing it change my photo?

Not for JPG, PNG and WEBP: every pixel stays as it was, and only the details are taken out. The colour profile is kept unless you turn it off, so colours look the same. HEIC, AVIF, TIFF and camera RAW photos come out as JPG or PNG, because those formats can't lose their details untouched; their rows say so.

Can I take out only the location?

Yes. Pick Only the place: the GPS location goes and the date, camera and the rest stay. Or pick Choose what goes and tick the kinds to take out. Either way XMP and IPTC go whole, because the place and the author can be kept there too.

What about AI prompts in PNG files?

Image generators often save the prompt and settings in the PNG as text. Take out everything, or Choose what goes with AI prompts and texts ticked, removes them. The row marks a photo that has one in red.

Can I change the date, the author or the place?

Yes. Pick Change details and fill in the author, copyright, caption, date taken, or a place (numbers such as 52.37, 4.89, or a map link). Empty fields stay as they are.

What is "Created with FormatYard.com"?

Every other tool on FormatYard writes this short note in the Software field of the files it makes, the way photo apps write their name. It holds nothing about you. This page is the one place that takes it out too, with Take out everything.

Why does a photo stay upright?

Phones often store a photo sideways with a note to turn it. Upright keeps that one note so the photo still shows the right way up. Turn it off to take it out too.

Is there a limit?

No daily limit and no file size limit set by us. Drop many photos at once and download them one by one or together as a ZIP.
